Alliance Française was founded in 1883 in Paris by renowned humanists like Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne, with the objectives of reinforcing friendship and solidarity between people through the promotion of the French language and cultural projects. Alliance Française de Dacca, sometimes referred as French Cultural Center here in Bangladesh, is a center for education and culture, which has been serving the country since 1959. The main function of this institution is to promote the French culture, especially the French language to the local people and at the same time to promote the local culture in France. Like all the Alliance Françaises in the world Alliance Française de Dacca too is run by an executive committee formed by some local elites who are enthusiast of the French culture.
