Bangladesh Medical Council was first formed under Bangladesh Medical Council Act. in 1973. Subsequently the Act. of 1973 was repealed in 1980. Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act. was passed by the Parliament on 09-04-1980 to provide for the constitution of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. This Council has its office only in Dhaka. The Council is headed by a President who is elected by the members of the Council from amongst themselves.

Bangladesh Medical Association -BMA is the national association of the doctors of Bangladesh. It represents 32,000 physicians of the country. BMA has 67 district branches working all over the country. BMA looks after the interests of the doctors as well as the well being of the medical community in general.

BMANA is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, educational and charitable organization of medical professionals of Bangladeshi descent. BMANA was incorporated in Michigan in 1981. Since then 16 chapters of BMANA have been established in the United States.

The Diabetic Association was established on 28 February 1956 in Dhaka at the initiative of the late National Professor M Ibrahim and a group of social workers, philanthropists, physicians and civil servants. Over the years, the clinic has turned into a diabetes care and research complex at Shahbag, Dhaka, which, after the demise of Prof M Ibrahim in 1989,has been renamed as the Ibrahim Memorial Diabetes Center.
